The European city with the most motorbike per inhabitant is Barcelona. Not only the motorbike market in Spain is based in Barcelona, but also at European level. Has a amount of motorbikes on its streets greater than big European capitals such as Rome, Paris and Berlin. According to investigations one of every three vehicles in Barcelona are motorbikes, either in circulation or parked, we guarantee that you will see a motorbike when traveling the city.

Some numbers..

A study done jointly by the Department of Geography of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) says that the number of journeys they have made has grown to represent 26.5% of all motorized mobility in Barcelona and that motorbikes, scooters and mopeds represent 22% of the vehicle fleet throughout the city.

“That 22.2% of the mobile park in Barcelona are motorbikes evidences that it is a very important actor to study in itself, and we have been able to verify that they behave very differently from the car in times of crisis” explained Carme Miralles , ICTA-UAB researchers and co-author of the study with Oriol Marquet, researcher at the Department of Geography of the UAB.

According to data of the Spanish Union of Insurers and Reinsurers in the first quarter of 2019, the motorbike market has grown by 18.5%

After finishing with an increase of 8.9% in 2018 and the first quarter of 2019 with an increase of 18.5%, the report by Unespa and Anesdor indicates that the motorbike market is growing. “Barcelona is the European capital of the motorbike, with the highest rate of motorbikes per inhabitant” said Miguel Ángel Vázquez (Unespa).

It is a model and example that should be taken by other big cities, so it would not be necessary to talk day after day about traffic jams or pollution. It`s for this reason why we have to thank Barcelona and its people for understanding the benefits of motorbikes in the big cities.
